Who is behind Frifty Consulting?

Mal Drury - Rose is the founder of Frifty, providing a transparent and trustworthy consulting service, based on Mal’s many years’ experience of the rail industry and devolved government including an extensive delivery track record.

Maybe, Frifty is a ‘new kid on the block’ but with Mal’s 30 years’ experience backing it, Frifty has plenty of achievements and experience to draw on and a network of professionals that we would be more than happy to collaborate with.

Mal has led teams for over 20 years in the rail sector holding senior positions with Train Operating Companies including regional, intercity and commuting routes and a period at the Rail Delivery Group as Head of Policy. Mal’s frontline operational rail experience goes back to the British Rail era, as a youngster! 

More recently, Mal was one of the first three Executive Directors for Transport for Wales during the procurement phase of the new rail service contract and successfully worked with the Department for Transport to reach principle agreement on the arrangements for the Wales and Borders rail contract.  

Mal also led the stakeholder and market engagement activities, for Transport for Wales, as Rail Services Director.

Working for Welsh Ministers for 10 years, as Head of Rail and transport projects, Mal has a complete insight in devolved government including the complexities of the civil service process, relationships with local government and dealings at the UK level and transport and passenger organisations, such as Network Rail, Transport Focus and the Office of Rail and Road (ORR).

Mal worked with Network Rail on the Welsh Government’s rail programme and managed the Wales and Borders franchise contract formerly operated by Arriva. 

Mal has always believed an organisation’s culture and its people are the main routes to success. During his lengthy career, Mal has worked to get the best out of teams by supporting and leading them, while providing his employers with a professional and committed service. That brings us full circle to the present and the creation of Frifty Consulting.
